CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
The Appraisal Institute (AI) is seeking a Chief Executive Officer. Based in Chicago, Illinois, the Appraisal Institute is the world’s leading organization of professional real estate appraisers. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) position is responsible for supervising and managing strategic development of the Appraisal Institute. The CEO will report to the Board of Directors and Executive Committee. The CEO will work with the President, Executive Committee and Board of Directors to develop, update as required, and implement the Mission and Vision Statement for the AI and the goals identified in the Strategic Plan. The CEO will identify and evaluate trends and events that will affect the AI membership and will be responsible for developing proposals to address these issues.
The CEO position will be responsible for management of the AI staff in both the Chicago headquarters and the Washington, D.C. office. With a budget of over $20M and a staff of 90, the CEO will provide leadership to the staff, while controlling all phases of the operation in the most cost-effective and efficient manner possible. The CEO will provide leadership in the staff’s support of the Board and its responsibilities. The CEO position is very visible both internally and externally, involving frequent communication with the Board, Committees and their officers, Chapters’ leadership, general membership and related organizations, where appropriate. The CEO will be responsible for increasing AI’s international brand and image, working closely with the Board and AI leadership to effect this goal. The CEO will be responsible for developing staff and staff leadership in a manner that ensures smooth succession processes.
Candidates must have a positive track record of staff development and engagement, i.e., succession planning, cross training and education achievement. Delegation skills are required and a demonstration that the candidate has managed the flow of work through multiple levels within an organization. Candidates will have overseen a complex budget with a minimum of $10M, including strategic planning, implementation and forecasting. To be considered, candidates must have produced positive outcomes in response to organizational goals and initiated value added programs.
Candidates must have strong written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and impromptu messaging when required. AI is seeking a problem solver/fixer; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate their accomplishments and strong follow through. Candidates must also have experience working with a board of directors.
AI is undertaking a significant software update; therefore, a candidate should have a good working knowledge of technology and the implementation of new platforms.
The Appraisal Institute is a global organization and the CEO will be required to travel both domestically and internationally.
Experience in international travel will be helpful and multilingual ability is a plus. A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree is required.
